Disappointment over Government's response to Scottish Rural Development Programme

24 April 2009

Peter Peacock, Highlands and Islands regional Labour MSP, has expressed his disappointment over the Scottish Government’s lack of action over the Scottish Rural Development Programme applications.

Mr Peacock pressed Roseanna Cunningham on the issue during Question Time at the Scottish Parliament.

The latest round of applications earlier this month were postponed within days of the closing date.

Mr Peacock said: "It is disappointing that the Scottish Government are not giving any guidance or clarity to the farmers and crofters who have been left in limbo.

"Many have spent their time and money on the detailed and complex application process, which has left many out of pocket.

"Although the scheme has been described as a victim of its own success, Roseanna Cunningham must not continue to dodge the issue and should explain why the process was stopped at such a late stage.

"The Minister must also act quickly to ensure that those applying to this fund are given the financial help and guidance they require."
