Highland MSP calls on Environment Minister Roseanna Cunningham to release report on Bull Hire Scheme
3 February 2010
Peter Peacock, Highlands and Islands regional Labour MSP, is urging Environment Minister Roseanna Cunningham to release a report on the future of the Bull Hire Scheme immediately.
He said: "I would ask that you release the report straight away to enable all interested parties to look at its contents given the importance of the matter to many."
Mr Peacock believes that the Bull Hire Scheme has a crucial role for crofters in the Highlands and Islands. He and his fellow regional Labour MSPs David Stewart and Rhoda Grant successfully campaigned for the scheme to be retained a year ago after the SNP Government announced that it was to end.
The MSPs organised a petition on the issue which attracted 400 signatures from crofters and defeated the Government in a Parliamentary vote.
The Government agreed to continue the scheme for another year while a report was worked on by the Bull Hire Review Group to meet crofters’ needs and aspirations.
